Dear Sir or Madam, My name is Mikhail Petrov and I would like to express my interest in applying for the position of an Ordinary Seaman at your esteemed company. I am 21 years old. I was born and raised in Saint-Petersburg. I am a fourth-year cadet of the Navigation Department of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. I chose this University because I wanted to be a seaman and this university gives the best maritime education and opportunities for seamen in Russia, besides it is located in my native city. While studying at the University I have developed a huge interest in work and life of navigators and the crew in general. I believe that meeting the specialists from all over the world would be the best work experience in my life and a great opportunity to learn about different cultures and their values. Besides, having practical training onboard big vessels with complicated machinery will improve my knowledge like nothing else. But more important than simply having a practice is a chance to be the part of the financially strong and stable company that takes care of its employees. Great work and stability in life are the things that I have always wanted so I am very motivated to do everything I can in the right manner. Since childhood, my parents instilled in me such important qualities as diligence and hard work, so even during my school years I actively developed in sports and studies. Upon graduation, I had a diploma of the school Olympiad winner in History and Geography, as well as a high score on the math exam, which helped me to enroll in one of the best higher education universities in my city. While studying at the University, I tried to develop in various directions, while placing the main emphasis on learning the profession. This is evidenced by numerous thanks from the University's management, as well as the University's highest award - the medal "For Diligence". In my free time, I am interested in singing and scenic arts at the University, winning various competitions, thereby being provided an increased scholarship. I spent my first shipboard training on the STS "MIR". There I got my first experience working on the bridge and on the deck of a marine sailing vessel, and the Third Mate taught me how to use my knowledge gained at the university in my profession. After this shipboard training, I was awarded thanks certificate for excellent work on board from the ship's command staff and from the rector of my university. I would love to be a part of your company, as it would allow me to be successful in life. Considering my educational performance so far and my desire to do my best, I am convinced that I will be valuable to your company.
