This standard has been developed to meet the requirements of Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters, as contained in Section A-V/4 and Table A-V/4-1 of the STCW Code. 2. Persons who complete the training successfully and receive a course completion certificate, may be eligible to make an application for a Certificate of Proficiency in Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters. In addition to the polar waters training and certification requirements for the master Chapter 12 of Part I-A of the Polar Code requires every crew member to be familiar with the procedures and equipment contained or referenced in the Polar Waters Operation Manual relevant to their assigned duties.
